JenSop: The Singing Traveler!

Idealist. Dreamer. Singer. Explorer.

About Me

Hi there!  Welcome to my blog!  🙂

My name is Jen.  I’m a singer.  (A soprano, hence the name “JenSop” which has been my online screen name on the singer and Disney forums for many a year.)

I’ve been singing my whole life – since I was a little girl – and I went on to get both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music.  I pretty much sing everything – opera, operetta, oratorio, musical theatre, jazz, early music… you get the idea.

(I’ve been teaching for a long time, too!  Music, English, Substitute Teaching… I like to think I’ve grown and developed into quite an excellent teacher in addition to my other skills. 🙂 )

I have released two solo holiday music CD’s (Echoes of Christmas Past and Tidings of Christmas), along with performing on many other CD’s released by other organizations.  My most recent and third CD (Voices of Spring) was released in late 2010 and features Viennese and American operetta arias.  I am accompanied on the CD by renowned accompanist, David Lutz.  I coached at the Staatsoper (State Opera) in Vienna to prepare for the project.  In 2016, Olde Towne Carolers (my holiday music company) also released a full length Christmas album called “Sing We Noel.”

I’ve performed many roles, but my favorites have been Mabel (Pirates of Penzance), Kathie (The Student Prince), Pamina (The Magic Flute), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Phyllis (Iolanthe), Nadina (The Chocolate Soldier), Musetta (La Boheme), Frasquita (Carmen), Blonda (Abduction from the Seraglio), and Josephine (HMS Pinafore).  I’ve also been soprano soloist for Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Mozart’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Cantata 202, and many others.
Singing has also taken me on some wonderful travels; I made my international performance debut in 2007 in England.  Little did I know that it was only the beginning of the many adventures I’d take all over the world!

My successful Holiday music business is called Olde Towne Carolers.  We’ve been on national television (Rachael Ray Show twice!), WOGL radio, the CW news, Channel 69 News Music Monday, Disney’s Train Tour, Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Longwood Gardens, and too many great gigs to count.  I get to hire all of my awesome singer friends to work with me and we spread holiday cheer every year – how great is that?!

I also LOVE to travel, and by a wonderful stroke of luck, I became a travel agent back in 2010. It actually all started with my lifelong love of the happiest place on Earth – Disney World!  I’ve been going regularly since I was a little girl, and some of my best memories are from those early trips with my grandparents.  My grandfather passed away many years ago, but I think of him every single time I walk up Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, and look up at Cinderella’s Castle.  He helped me to always believe in my dreams – for that I’ll be eternally grateful.

In 2010, I happened to be put in touch with a travel agency that wanted someone to be one of their Disney specialists – someone who really knew the parks and believed in pixie dust…. and voila, I became a VIP Vacations’ Disney specialist!

I have done quite a lot of traveling around in Europe, via train and on River Cruises.  During the past couple years, I’ve lived months at a time overseas, and am currently working as a tour director in Central Europe.  I’ve lived in Vienna (Austria), and have spent extensive time living in Croatia.  (I’m legally allowed to stay in Europe as a dual citizen of the USA and Hungary.  Here’s the BLOG POST about that.)  I’ve become quite the expert in getting from place to place via Europe’s extensive train system.  In addition to Austria and Croatia, I’ve been to Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Romania, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Belgium, Norway, England, and Wales.

Now for the other juicy details:  I’m originally from eastern Pennsylvania.  I grew up in the country, but my hometown is an easy quick drive to both NYC and Philadelphia.  I have a handsome husband named Miloš who knows how to make me smile even on bad days – he is from Croatia, and we love going on adventures together.  (He’s also the reason for all the extensive time living in Croatia AND my reason for relocating to Europe! 😉 )  He’s the love of my life and the best thing that ever happened to me.  🙂

Hmmm… What else?

I’m a bit quirky.

I’m a dreamer.

I’m really just a big kid in a small adult body.

I never intend to fully grow up.

I am not easily embarrassed – actually nothing really embarrasses me.

I like to be silly and goofy.

I’m a performer, so I do love the spotlight.

I don’t do subtle.

I tend to be a chatty over-sharer.

I’m a super nerd who loves Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Battlestar Galactica.

I tend to be a tad bit emotional at times.

I never tone down my happy!

I truly like to help people.

I love to learn.

I don’t like mean people, nor do I have time for judgey people.

I love animals and want to hug them all!

I like to take risks even when I’m scared out of my mind.

I believe in true love because I finally found it – and it’s wonderful!

And more than anything, I believe that if you put good into the world, good will come back to you.

As I take in so many wonderful places that this beautiful planet has to offer, I will not only expand my knowledge and enrich my soul, but I’ll also share it with all of you.

This blog is not only my humble attempt to relay the stories from the worlds of singer and traveler – but also a window into my own personal journey in this universe of ours.  I hope you’ll come along for the ride!

  1. Disney World is the best! I have only been there twice (being that I’m from CT the distance and money situation is never easy), but I definitely think everyone should go once- especially children! Great blog you’ve got going here. Keep it up! 🙂

  2. Thanks Sarah! Enjoying your blog too! And I’m in PA, so I’m a good distance from Disney too – it can be done – and easily! 🙂
