Just about a month to go! Time to pack!

My Disney trip is a little less than a month away, and my Croatia trip is just over a month away.  Needless to say, I’m so freakin’ excited!!!!  Haha!  😀

I posted awhile back about putting things aside as I started to think about what I was going to pack for my trips, but now we’ve made it to the final stretch – it’s almost time to go.  So it’s now time to pack for real!  Yay!  (Wow, I’m such a dork – does anyone else get this excited about packing?…)

I also mentioned before that for both trips I was going to be using just carry-on luggage.  For the Disney trip, I honestly just don’t want to pay the baggage fee.  It’s only a six day trip, and we have a washer and dryer in the villa, so I’ll just take a few items and do laundry while I’m there.  No biggie.  My normal Disney routine is go to a park in the morning, swim at the resort after lunch, then head out to dinner and another park in the evening.  It’s SO hot there, so I do need two outfits per day.  (I sweat a lot.)  Morning outfits are super casual, while evening is usually a fun sundress to wear out to dinner.  (You all know how much I love my pretty dresses!)  Fortunately, summer clothes take up hardly any room in a bag, so I should be a-okay.

I’m still a bit concerned as to how I’m going to make the packing for Croatia happen with just a carry-on.  (I leave on August 1st, and fly home on August 13th.)  I mean, I don’t NEED to do carry-on only, but I think it will be SO much easier to not have to worry about going to baggage claim at any point, AND it should also make it easier with all the extra travel I’ll be doing once on land.  There’s the bus ride from Zagreb to Crikvenica, then the journey from Crikvenica to Zadar.  I don’t want to have to worry about a big ole’ giant suitcase.  (‘Cause believe me, I could easily fill it if that’s what I was taking.)  I plan to mostly wear sundresses or my bathing suit everyday, so again, that stuff shouldn’t take up too much room.  BUT deciding which dresses to take is proving tricky.  It’s going to be hot there as well.  (Thank goodness I’ll be in Disney first, so I can get my body conditioned to the hot weather.   Sigh… I’m SUCH a northerner…)  So I want dresses that keep me as cool as possible.  I also want the dresses that are the prettiest and make me look the cutest.  (Come on people, when I get there, it’ll have been four months since I’ve seen Miloš – I want to look fabulous!  Duh!  Hahaha! 😉 )  I do have a fantastic maxi dress that I’m going to wear on the plane.  It’s SO pretty, but also insanely comfortable.  (Like wearing pajamas that make you look like a cross between a princess and a greek goddess.   Awesome, right?)  And since it’s long, I can tuck my legs under the dress and curl up in the seat when I want to sleep on the plane.)  But narrowing down the other dresses is so challenging.  Although I have a feeling I can’t go wrong with whatever I take.  🙂  Fortunately, I’ve had my shoe situation figured out for this trip for months.  Nude-colored tall platform sandals for anything dressy, brown strappy lower heeled platform sandals for that in between look, and my brown Reef flip flops for super casual.  (And cheap Old Navy rubber flip flops for the beach.)

I haven’t gotten to planning my shoes for Disney yet.  I better get on that.  ‘Cause when it comes down to it, the shoes you take can really influence which outfits go along too.  (One of my pairs of Reef flip flops will definitely be making the cut, of course.)

At the end of the day, the packing is just one element that adds to the excitement and anticipation of a trip.  Packing makes it feel real and close.  (Hence me liking it so darn much!)  I’m so excited for my nieces to see Disney World for the first time – they are talking about it almost constantly now.  And I’m SO excited to see Miloš and have some amazing adventures together!  And of course, I can’t wait to share the highlights with all of you!

One of my favorite quotes is, "If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough." I guess I've been a dreamer all my life - I set my sights high and then I try to reach the sky. Some might call me a naive idealist, but that's just the way I am. I believe in always taking the high road, I believe in true love, and I believe in treating people the way you want to be treated. If you put good out into the world, good will come back to you! Being the dreamer that I am, I pursued singing as my primary life's calling - I've got two degrees in classical voice under my belt, and I sing just about anything under the sun. I also love a good adventure. Over the past few years, I've done quite a bit of world traveling, and have even lived abroad for stretches at a time: mostly in Vienna (Austria) and Croatia. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, and I became a travel agent who specializes in Disney vacations. (Seriously, I KNOW Disney - I've been going regularly since I was a little girl - and I LOVE it!) And with all my experience traveling and living in Europe, I'm becoming quite the specialist in that travel category as well. (And last year, I started working as a Tour Director in Central Europe!) As to the other juicy details of my life - I'm originally from Pennsylvania, I'm married to an awesome Croatian man named Miloš who is the BEST adventure partner a girl could ask for. (He's also an expert on knowing how to make me smile.) He's truly the love of my life! I've also had all kinds of other jobs along the way, besides singer and travel pro. (Which is pretty standard for those of us who went to school for music.) I've worked part time weekends as a Disney Princess look-alike for children's parties. I've been teaching for almost 20 years, and have lots of experience in retail and customer service. Oh, and I should also probably mention that I'm a huge Lord of the Rings/Star Trek nerd! :-) Let's all go along for an adventure, shall we?
