Hello dear readers. I apologize for my lack of posts lately. I am in the middle of rehearsals for “Patience” and caroling season is quick approaching. (And a busy season it will be indeed!)
But I wanted to let everyone know of some of my exciting new happenings on the horizon. I know I talked about doing the European audition thing a little while ago. Well, things have been moving along quite well on that front as far as planning. I now have a small studio apartment booked in Vienna for seven weeks starting on February 15th. It’s in the 2nd district (located between the old city and the Danube) and the building is right next to an U-Bahn stop. It may be small, but it has everything I need, including a small kitchen so I can make my own meals to save money. I also will be able to practice daily during daytime hours. (This of course was an important requirement when choosing where to stay.) The contract is signed and the deposit is made!
I also was lucky to have built up enough frequent flyer miles over the last few years to be able to fly to and from Europe just on my miles. (Yay!) I couldn’t get directly to Vienna that way, but I will be flying to and from Munich, and will get a small plane to and from Vienna from there. (So far, the prices on those look pretty decent.)
So the biggies are covered. I’ve been working on my audition rep and will have to have everything ready as far as mailing my materials to different agents and theatres a few weeks before I leave. I’m not only going to try for the whole opera thing, but will also be focusing on operetta and oratorio. I’ve done a lot of solo baroque oratorio rep, and I know that there’s some potential for work in that regard as well.
I’ve decided that I will try to blog as regularly as possible while I am over there – both from the singing AND travel aspects of it all! I mean – how exciting – I’ll be there to sing, but there will be many days of non-singing where I can just get out there and see what there is to see. (And then share it with all of you!) I can’t wait.
Of course, I’ll have my camera with me to document my journeys along the way.
